Diageo Partners with Inter-County Energy and EKPC to Open Carbon Neutral Distillery

By partnering with Inter-County Energy and East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC), global beverage leader Diageo has opened its first carbon neutral distillery in Lebanon, Kentucky.

Basin Electric to Purchase Interest in NTEC

ALLETE, Inc. announced that it is selling a portion of its ownership stake in the planned Nemadji Trail Energy Center (NTEC) to Basin Electric Power Cooperative. NTEC is a proposed combined-cycle, natural gas power plant to be built in Superior, Wisconsin, and is expected to be capable of delivering approximately 600 MW.

NRECA Selected for DOE Funds

Coops Receive Aid to Support Wildfire Repairs

Lane Electric Cooperative and Consumers Power Inc., two electrical coops serving customers in Oregon, will receive a combined $21 million to help cover the cost of repairs to electric transmission and distribution infrastructure damaged by wildfires in September 2020.

Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Work Together to Provide Hurricane Ida Relief

Arkansas Electric Cooperatives dispatched an additional 181 line workers and utility vehicles to Houma to help South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association restore power. Arkansas Electric Cooperatives previously sent more than 200 line workers to Louisiana to assist with the storm damage hours after Hurricane Ida struck through Louisiana.

Coops Across America Donate School Supplies

Many coops across the country are assisting their local schools as the new year starts amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Peace River Electric Cooperative, Ozarks Electric Cooperative, Southside Electric Cooperative, Trico Electric Cooperative and Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative were among many coops to donate supplies to schools across the country.

Wildfires Threaten Electric Coop’s Territory

The California Dixie Fire, which has burned nearly 1 million acres since mid-July, continues to threaten areas served by Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative. The coop, which serves roughly 8,000 meters northwest of Reno, Nevada, has been on backup power since July 21.

Five Coops to Receive USDA Renewable Investment

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it would invest $464 million across 48 states and Puerto Rico in building or improving renewable energy structure. Five electric cooperatives are among the recipients.

A massive mutual aid effort involving utility crews from more than 30 states is underway after Hurricane Ida made landfall west of New Orleans as a powerful Category 4 storm. Crews from electric coops in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas are headed to Louisiana to assist with power restoration.
