Quorum Court Approves Tax Incentive for proposed $1.85B Power Plant

The Independence County Quorum Court approved a resolution granting a tax break to the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) to support construction of a new $1.85 billion natural gas fired plant on the site of the retiring Independence Steam Electric Station. The new plant, intended to begin operating as the coal facility ceases to operate in 2030, will shift primary ownership to AECC, reflecting its plan to invest more heavily in power generation.
