New Mexico Cooperative Adds Solar + Storage, Reaches 100% Daytime Solar

Kit Carson Electric Cooperative will reach its goal of 100% solar-powered daytime energy. The cooperative will hit its target nine months early after the completion of two new solar + storage developments with Torch Clean Energy.

Broadband Interest Continues to Broaden in Mississippi Coops

North East Mississippi Electric Power Association plans to offer high-speed fiber optic service to all of its customers in five counties. Directors have approved the effort, and members will vote on the issue in December. The expansion marks at least the fifth Mississippi coop planning broadband service.

Arkansas Cooperative Part of Team Launching Solar + Storage Facility

Ozarks Electric Cooperative, together with the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Today’s Power Inc., launched a new solar and energy storage facility last week. Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) and EDF Renewables North America have agreed to develop and build a 30 MW portfolio of distributed solar projects in ODEC service territories. The projects, which will cover 10-12 sites, are expected to be online in 2020 or 2021.

Pricey Insurance Provision Repealed by House

The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday in a bipartisan effort to repeal the “Cadillac Tax” provision of the Affordable Care Act. The provision, which taxed some employer-sponsored health care plans with a 40% surcharge, was panned by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association for unfairly affecting coops due to higher rural health care costs.

Tenaska Closes Financing for Missouri Wind Project
