Tri-State Increases Solar Portfolio

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. (Tri-State) and juwi Inc. have entered into a long-term power purchase agreement related to the planned 30 MW San Isabel Solar Project.  Pursuant to the agreement, Tri-State will purchase all of the output of the facility during the 25-year term.  The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Oklahoma Coop Agrees to Sell Transmission Assets to Competitive Transmission Company

Hooker, Oklahoma-based Tri-County Electric Cooperative has agreed to sell its transmission assets, including 410 miles of 69 and 115 kV transmission lines to GridLiance Holdco, LP, a competitive transmission company focused on municipal and cooperative utilities. The agreement is expect to close by year end, pending federal regulatory approval.

EPA’s Clean Power Plan Could Hurt Electric Coops

The Clean Power Plan of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) calls for existing power plants to slash their greenhouse gas emissions by 32 percent from 2005 levels by 2030. This reduction could force rural electric cooperatives to prematurely close their coal-fired power plants, creating a multibillion-dollar debt for the nonprofit electricity providers.
