Vineyard Power Cooperative, Inc., an energy cooperative serving the Martha’s Vineyard area, and Vineyard Wind LLC, an offshore wind development company, have unveiled plans for a proposed wind facility, Offshore Wind Operation & Maintenance. The new facility is expected to employ up to 40 people and will help address climate change, ocean acidification and coastal erosion.

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) announced development of the Heartland Divide Wind Farm, a 104 MW wind project, which is set for completion by the end of 2018. Once operational, the new wind farm will represent CIPCO’s largest wind energy project to date.

South Central Indiana Rural Electric Membership Corporation (SCI REMC) announced that it is kicking off its anticipated fiber-to-the-home business. Construction is set to begin in June, and SCI REMC plans to offer members in the initial coverage areas an opportunity to start signing up for service at the end of the year.

Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Hoosier) and EDP Renewables (EDPR) have executed a power purchase agreement in connection with the 200 MW Riverstart Solar Park, which is expected to be operational in 2022. Riverstart Solar Park will be the largest solar array in Indiana, producing enough clean electricity to power approximately 37,000 households.

Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES) to purchase up to 100 MW of energy. Under the PPA, AECC will purchase energy produced by an 800-acre solar farm which will be constructed by RES beginning in 2021.

Cooperative Energy and Origis Energy celebrated their new joint venture 52 MW solar project near Sumrall in Lamar County, Mississippi, signifying a major commitment to generating renewable energy. The project, MS Solar 3, is built on a 540-acre site, and includes 206,000 polycrystalline solar panels that gather sunlight and transform it to energy that will power up to 11,400 homes.

A federal court in Pennsylvania has dismissed a putative class action against REA Energy Cooperative seeking the return of approximately $53 million in patronage capital. The court found that state law and the cooperative’s bylaws allowed the board of directors to determine when patronage capital would be returned to members. The court rejected the plaintiffs’ attempts to limit the board’s discretion in determining when to return patronage capital.
