North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives announced plans to develop 14 solar + storage facilities across rural North Carolina. The sites will generate over 23 MW of energy from more than 75,000 solar panels and provide over 53 MWh of energy storage.

Two Alaska communities north of the Arctic Circle are benefiting from a new solar installation owned by a local tribal government that is selling the power back to the Alaska Village Electric Cooperative. This arrangement is expected to reduce demand for diesel fuel by about 25,000 gallons a year in a region that has some of the highest energy costs in the state.

North Dakota regulators approved a $5.4 million grant for the final engineering study related to Minnkota Power Cooperative’s (Minnkota) Project Tundra carbon capture project. The project aims to capture carbon emissions from the coal-fired plant and bury them underground. If Minnkota decides to move forward with the project, they could begin construction by the end of 2022.
