New Hampshire Cooperative Seeking FEMA Reimbursement

President Trump has granted a request for a major disaster declaration in Belknap County, New Hampshire and elsewhere for an October 29, 2017 – November 1, 2017 storm that brought flooding rains and damaging winds. The declaration will free up funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to government entities and some private nonprofits for up to 75 percent of the eligible costs of approved projects. Wabash Valley and Hoosier Energy Sign Wind PPA

Wabash Valley Power Association (Wabash Valley) and Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Hoosier Energy) have signed a two-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDP Renewables to purchase 100 percent of the wind capacity from Meadow Lake V located in northwestern Indiana. The PPA will provide 25 MW of energy in 2018 and an additional 50 MW in 2020 for Hoosier Energy, and 25 MW of energy beginning in 2018 for Wabash Valley.

Electric Coop Completing Construction on New Hampshire’s Largest Solar Array

New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NHEC) is working to complete construction on a $5 million solar electric array by the end of the year. Once completed, the 2 MW system will include 7,200 panels and is expected to save NHEC members nearly $300,000 a year.

Valley Electric Association (“VEA”) has created a wholly-owned subsidiary that it hopes to use to provide wholesale electricity to commercial customers outside of its service territory. In Nevada, subject to regulatory approval, companies with a load of at least 1 megawatt can pay impact fees to obtain energy from a power provider other than NV Energy, which is the region’s primary utility company. Texas Electric Cooperatives Announces Alliance with Comanche Electric Cooperative

On Friday, December 1, 2017, Texas Electric Cooperatives (“TEC”) announced an alliance with Comanche Electric Cooperative that will add about 5,000 miles of line and over 16,000 meters into areas already served by TEC. TEC’s alliance supply model is noteworthy because it reduces operational and redundant costs by leveraging the aggregation and scale that alliance partnerships make possible, which ultimately benefits each cooperative’s bottom line. TEC represents the interests of 75 electric cooperatives with more than 3 million members throughout Texas.

Dairyland to Purchase Power from New Wind Farm

Construction is complete on EDP Renewables’ Quilt Block Wind Farm located in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. Dairyland Power Cooperative has entered into a twenty-year agreement to purchase power from this project, and Dairyland estimates that this wind farm can power about 25,000 homes.

Kentucky Solar Farm Is Up and Running

On Wednesday, Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives dedicated Cooperative Solar Farm One, a brand new solar farm spanning 60 acres. The East Kentucky Power Cooperative will run the solar farm, but members of any of Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives have the opportunity to license a solar panel. Members who buy a $460 25-year solar panel license will get credit on their monthly power bills equal to their share of the energy generated by the solar farm.

USDA Invests $2.5 Billion in Rural Electric Infrastructure

United Power to Build Colorado’s Largest Battery Storage Facility

United Power, a Touchstone Energy cooperative, has announced plans to build its first commercial-scale energy storage project. At 4 MW, the battery storage system will be the largest in Colorado. The facility is to be developed in collaboration with Chicago-based SoCore Energy, a solar photovoltaic and energy storage developer that focuses on serving rural electric cooperatives. SoCore and United Power selected Tesla to supply the 4 MW/16 MWh powerpack system, and construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2018.
