In an effort toward compliance with anticipated federal regulations, Minnkota Power Cooperative (Minnkota) will purchase wind energy from NextEra Energy Resources 100 megawatt wind farm addition when the project begins operation in early 2017, at which point nearly 35 percent of Minnkota’s electric generation capacity will come from wind.

BNI Coal Ltd. (BNI) near Center, North Dakota, and Minnkota Power Cooperative (Minnkota) have reached an extended agreement to provide coal to the Minnkota Power Milton R. Young Station through 2037. Minnkota Power Cooperative’s (Minnkota) $312-million, 345-kilovolt Center-to-Grand Forks, North Dakota, transmission line is now being delayed by about five months due to extreme winter weather. Though the project is over 90 percent complete, Minnkota’s ability to construct the line has simply made the initial completion date of February 2014 impossible. Read more here.
