Pedernales to Distribute Capital Credits

Pedernales Electric Cooperative will divvy out roughly $13.5 million in capital credits to current and former members. The distribution stems from Pedernales’ Capital Credits Policy implemented in April 2011 and is comparable to a quarter of Pedernales’ 2010 net margin. The Highlander has more.

Argan Awarded Texas Biomass Plant

Gemma Power Systems, a subsidiary of Argan Inc. has been appointed to build a $165 million biomass plant near Woodville, Texas. East Texas Electric Cooperative awarded the contract, which still requires certain regulatory approvals. The parties anticipate a project completion date in December 2014. New York Legislation Opens New Service Areas to Coops

Under the new law, the definition of “rural” has been changed to cover towns with up to 20,000 residents.  Prior to this change, the limit in New York was 1,000 residents.  Electric Co-op Today has the full story.

USDA Announces Plan to Fund Improvements to Distribution and Smart Grid Technologies

Proposed Legislation Would Exempt Coops from EPA Rules Applicable to Stationary Engines

U.S. Rep. Bob Latta recently introduced H.R. 3185 to provide exemptions for coops and municipal utilities from two rules referred to as the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines.  Without congressional action, the rules will require additional emission control technologies starting in 2013.  See Rep. NRECA Fights New EPA Air Rule

Oregon Coop and Winery To Promote Solar Development

A new solar farm located at the King Estate winery outside of Eugene, Oregon should be online in the next few months. Oklahoma Wind Farm Begins Construction

Enel Green Power North America Inc. and TradeWind Energy have begun construction on a 150 MW wind farm in Oklahoma in Kiowa and Washita counties. Western Farmers Electric Cooperative will purchase the power generated by the wind farm. Please visit The Oklahoman for more details.

Attorneys Plan to Sue Coop Over Las Conchas Fire Damage

Russian Gas Producer Making Gains in U.S. Coop Market
