Montana Senator Proposes Bill to Encourage Local Generation

In an effort to increase local energy production, U.S. Sen. Hawaii Coop Looks to Reallocate RUS Loan to Solar Project

Kauai Island Utility Cooperative wants to use a Rural Utilities Service (RUS) loan previously planned for a 10-MW renewable biodiesel plant to develop a 10 MW solar project. Argan Awarded Texas Biomass Plant

Gemma Power Systems, a subsidiary of Argan Inc. has been appointed to build a $165 million biomass plant near Woodville, Texas. East Texas Electric Cooperative awarded the contract, which still requires certain regulatory approvals. The parties anticipate a project completion date in December 2014. Oregon Coop and Winery To Promote Solar Development

A new solar farm located at the King Estate winery outside of Eugene, Oregon should be online in the next few months. The project will generate almost 1 MW of electricity that will be sold to Lane Electric Coop and will promote sustainable development for the organic vineyard while helping Lane Electric comply with state Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) requirements. Oklahoma Wind Farm Begins Construction

Enel Green Power North America Inc. and TradeWind Energy have begun construction on a 150 MW wind farm in Oklahoma in Kiowa and Washita counties. Western Farmers Electric Cooperative will purchase the power generated by the wind farm. Please visit The Oklahoman for more details.

Solar Energy Gets a Boost in Alabama

Alabama-based Arab Electric Cooperative (AEC) is making it a little easier for its members to be green.  AEC voted unanimously this week to join the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Generation Partners incentive program.  Under the program, the TVA gives homeowners and businesses a $1,000 incentive to help offset equipment costs, plus a 30 percent federal tax break through 2016.  The...

Solar Project Moves Forward in Maryland

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) is joining forces with  SunEdison to develop a solar facility in Hughesville, Maryland.  The National Renewables Cooperative Organization has been assisting SMECO in developing the project.  The 5.5-MW AC solar farm is currently pending approval from the state’s Public Service Commission.  Click here to read the full story.

Wisconsin Coop to Purchase From Seventh Methane Digester

Beginning early next year, Dairyland Power Cooperative will purchase power from a new 635-kW biogas digester facility located in Augusta, Wisconsin.
